Each Employee Should Have A Personalized Commitment Plan

A commitment plan (CP) is the written agreement between the employee and his supervisor on what work specifically will be accomplished, how long the employee will take to accomplish the work and what the completed work looks like. This contract is used to clarify expectations and is the basis for unambiguous communications between the employee and management.

The CP is an ongoing summary of the work to be accomplished and the deliverables at each step along the way. The commitment plan clearly states the supervisor's expectations to which the employee has agreed are reasonable and doable and outlines, week by week those deliverables to which the employee has agreed can be achieved (the commitment).

Once the CP has been developed and agreed to, the employee maintains and updates the document with his supervisor's knowledge and approval and the CP becomes the basis for their shared review of expectations and accomplishments in a weekly meeting. The commitment plan also provides the fundamental foundation for objective, fair and developmental performance reviews.

Each worker (including the CEO and his executive team) must have a CP so that they know what is expected, how they will be measured, and they regularly see the relevance of their work to what the organization has set out to accomplish.
